St Agnes, Cornwall - the friendly holiday retreat.

Unspoilt St. Agnes lies on the beautiful stretch of the North Cornwall coastline, right in the heart of Poldark Country. The rugged cliffs and coves of this Atlantic coast provide a marked contrast to the gentler shores of the English Channel to the South.

As an important centre of the tin mining industry, St. Agnes prospered well into the twentieth century and the ruins of old mine buildings and engine houses abound, giving the village its unique charm. More information regarding local history can be found in the small museum.

St. Agnes boasts three beaches, each with a character of its own:-
Trevaunance Cove, a 15 minute walk from the Porthvean, is sandy and sheltered, ideal for the family with its beach shop, pub and café. Here you will find the Blue Peter IV inshore lifeboat station and also, at low tide, the remains of St. Agnes harbour, long ago destroyed by storms.

Trevellas Porth lies next to Trevaunance and is a small, wild, rocky beach; an explorer's paradise, but not for the swimmer.

A few minutes drive from the village is Chapel Porth, owned by the National Trust, where there are many rock pools, caves, a cafe, and where the sea washes the sand with every tide. At low water it is possible to walk along the sands to Porthtowan.

The swimming and surfing beaches, Trevaunance and Chapel Porth, both have a lifeguard service during summer months.

From the top of St. Agnes Beacon, one can view the coastline from St. Ives to Newquay together with the surrounding countryside. The numerous coastal footpaths provide equally magnificent views and for the less energetic walker, there is usually a seat around the next bend!
